"We've looked at a number of data-synchronization tools and this has to be one of the easiest to use and one of the most reliable." -Mark Gibbs |
Core Features
Core GoodSync Features are described in the Core Features section. This page describes features available in the Enterprise version of GoodSync.Automation
-
Mass Install
The GoodSync installer can be silent or otherwise controlled using command line options. This allows you to use mass install software to silently install GoodSync on employee workstations. -
Start Your Own Script Before Analyze, After Analyze, and After Sync
You can ask GoodSync to ask your own script before analyze, after analyze, and after Sync. This script would perform custom reporting required by your company. Script that you run before analyze may initialize your VPN and other connections. -
Environment Variables in Folder Paths
Using environment variables such as %USERNAME% in folder paths of the sync job allows you to setup one set of jobs that would work for all employees. For example, you can set-up a job that syncs "%USERPROFILE%" to "\NETSHARE\BACKUPS\%USERNAME%" once every day and then copies jobs.tic file (list of jobs) to all employees GoodSync profile. Using the above settings sets up an environment where every employee has an automatic backup job that syncs their profile to the backup server. -
Automatically Sync on Logon and Logoff
Using the "Auto Sync on Windows Logon and Logoff" setting, you can setup your employee files to be locally available on every computer, yet always be current on a centralized company server:- On Logon GoodSync syncs company server to the local computer, thus downloading updated files from the server to the client.
- On Logoff GoodSync automatically syncs local computer to the company server, thus uploading changed local files to the server.
-
Logs of Actions and Changes Report
All changes are reported with file modifications, on the tree. All file operations performed by GoodSync are logged to log file and on screen. A change report is available for tracking and analysis. -
E-Mail Log of Automatic Sync
Once the sync session has been completed; GoodSync has an option to send e-mail with synchronization session results.
Command Line Scripting
-
GoodSync.exe Command Line
A sync job can be created, modified, and started using the GoodSync command line. This allows you to easily call GoodSync from batch files as well as any other program. -
GSYNC.exe Pure Command Line Executable
GoodSync has a GUI-less command line version GSYNC.EXE. It is ideal for automation, as it does not display any GUI, it returns error code and it writes all output to stdout where it can easily be capture for further analysis and archiving. -
File Operations Automation Using GSCP
GSCP is a pure command line client that can perform simple file operations (a la FTP client) on all file systems supported by GoodSync. You can perform file copy, move, upload, download operations on all GoodSync file systems (FTP, SFTP, S3, WinMobile, Windows) using the same scripting language.
User Experience Customization
-
Policies
System Administrator can prohibit certain undesirable user behavior from happening. The followingpolicies are available:- Do not allow to add/delete/rename jobs.
- Do not allow to change job paths or options.
- Do not allow to change program and/or job options and/or specific tabs in options.
- Disable support for some of file systems.
- Force mini-mode or tray mode.
-
Job Templates
Job Templates allow you to pre-program the most popular jobs used by the company, requiring minimal input from the user of simply specifying the backup/sync folder location. Since employees may have difficulty establishing advanced features (e.g., using file exclusions correctly), using Job Templates simplifies use for your employees. -
Mini-Window Mode
Force users to use Mini-Window mode where the entire GoodSync GUI is limited to small status window. To be used in custom deployments where administrator creates pre-programmed jobs and she does not want users to see the entire GoodSync GUI. Example: RoboForm-GoodSync integration. GoodSync is used to sync RoboForm Data to RoboForm Online server, but sync operations happen in the background.
Encryption and Compression
-
Encrypt Backups using EFS
You can use Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) to encrypt your backups. With GoodSync you can specify encrypted/decrypted status of sync folder. -
Compress Files in NTFS
You can use Windows NTFS to compress your backups. GoodSync allows you to specify compressed/uncompressed status of sync folder.
