GoodSync Enterprise Deployment Recommendations
GoodSync Enterprise can be used in corporate environment as a file backup and synchronization tool between user workstations and a central server. We recommend that GoodSync is installed on every user workstation and managed (if needed) centrally by system administrator with a rich set of command-line options executed as a part of the login script.
Workstation
GoodSync requires less than 6MB of disk space on a workstation fully installed.
File Server
The capacity of the server you are planning to use as a backup server with GoodSync depends on the amount of data you are planning to synchronize with GoodSync. We recommend you use SAN and RAID technologies to achieve the best balance between the read/write speed and the protection from data loss.
Connection to the Server
Depending on the nature of your work force, your backup file storage may be accessed via different protocols. The simplest one is LAN/WAN when users have direct access to the server. If your workforce is highly mobile, alternatively or concurrently with local synchronization, you may utilize FTP or WebDAV technologies to connect your users from anywhere in the world to your backup file server. Both FTP and WebDAV connections can be made secure and all data will be encrypted en route. We recommend you install the web server that services FTP and/or WebDAV on a server that is different from your file storage server.
Automation
GoodSync provides several automation options that include scheduling, synchronization on login, on drive connect, as well as on other events.
Topologies
To enhance the survivability of the system, you can create multiple backup servers that synchronize data among themselves in different topologies.
-
Several Offices
All users backup their data to the server that is local to their office. Periodically, data is synchronized between pairs of backup servers in different locations.

All users backup their data to a primary backup server that is periodically synchronized with a secondary backup server.

Distributed
All users back up their data directly to two or more backup servers.
